I hope that Jason will be more serious after two consecutive sessions of disappointment.
During the session, Jason went to look for informative book and very quickly picked a few. I was very happy and felt that Jason was the most serious this time round. He sat down and read quietly, until I asked him to read aloud, he read a paragraph or two, then went back to silent reading again.
In conclusion, I am satisfied with Jason’s performance today as he showed me that he is able of sitting down and read books quietly. I believe that he can do better though.

After a very fun and interactive session last time, I am expecting something about the same standard today.
Jason once again went back to the same old time when he did not want to read. Throughout the whole session, he was flipping through pages and seemed uninterested. When I wanted to move to flashcards, he refused and said he didn’t like flashcards. I was confused.
It is very disappointing that once again we are back to the times like the first few sessions where we did not do much. Jason seemed to be uninterested in the session once again and lacked focus. It confused me when he said he did not like flashcards despite the fact that we had so much fun the previous session.

Today, I want to firstly make Jason interested in the programme and gain his attention so that we’ll not waste time. Therefore, I’ll start using flashcards.
When I told Jason that we are going to play a small game instead of reading, he was very happy. This session was very enriching as he was very interested in the flashcards and we interacted a lot.
I am glad to say that today’s session is very productive as we did not waste much time and Jason was very interested in flashcards, making the progress a lot faster than expected. I will be using flashcards more often in future.

I reflected on the way I’ve been teaching Jason over the past few sessions and felt that I should be stricter to him so that he’ll not waste too much time and thinks that he’s here for fun.
Jason lacked focus today, and he seemed to be unwilling to read. He took a long time to find a book and by the time he found a book, we have very little time left. It is very disappointing as he did not seem to be caring if we have little time.
It is very disappointing that Jason seem to be here for the sessions just to have fun and not to improve his reading. He took his own sweet time to walk when finding books and merely skimmed through books and did not really pick one to read on. Also, he does not seem to be afraid of me and did not want to read.

Hopes that session today will be better and lesser time will be needed to be spent on looking for books or there will be insufficient time to finish what we got to do.
Jason once again took very long to find a suitable book. As such, he only managed to read a chapter of the book. Also, he refuses to read out loud and I have no idea what to do, which was very disappointing.
I am very disappointed with myself as well as Jason today. He took very long to find a book, a record of 20 minutes. Also, he refuses to read out loud and I have no idea how to make him read aloud. Therefore, I’m disappointed with myself as I wasn’t able to react and make him read.

This session, I set an aim to improve his ability to understand the meaning of words, as well as shorten the time needed for him to settle down with a book in hand.
Jason once again took very long time to look for a book, as well as finishing one. This poised as a challenge to us as that means the time we have during the session is shorter. He also lacks concentration and I presume it is because he does not have interest in reading. However, he did improve in knowing the definition of words.
The session seemed to be very short as a lot of time was used on settling Jason down and making him choose a book. I noticed he lacks concentration and I presume it is because of his lack in interest in reading. Therefore, I aim to gain his interest overtime. On a lighter note, he did well this time round by finishing a book in time and knowing the definition of most words.

During the first session with Jason today, I realised that there is not much of a problem for him pronouncing the words correctly. However, he is unable to understand the meaning of many difficult words. This is a problem as he did not voice out his doubts and did not even bother trying to find out the meaning of the word. On the other hand, Jason takes a very long time to search for a book to read, and he took 15 minutes to find a book, leaving us with only 45 minutes left. His attention span is also very short and therefore we have to take breaks in between so as to let him concentrate again.

I feel nervous as this is the first time I am doing this reading session and I kept thinking of “what should I do if this happens”. I felt quite lost as I did not prepare myself should anything go wrong.
I was glad when I found out that Jason’s command of English was pretty acceptable for his age and he was able to read books without much help. However, I felt quite helpless when he took his own sweet time to find a book to embark on. I tried to pick a book for him but he rejects my offer.
I was disappointed in myself as I came unprepared for what happened just now. The session, in a certain sense, was wasted as we only managed to read a book. However, now that I got to know his preferences better, I am confident that I can choose a book of his liking and we wouldn’t have to take a long time looking for books.
